Some came to Tuesday’s auction looking for parts, but others came to bid farewell to a 125-year-old company they say was known for high-quality guns not often found anymore. It was a sad day for many gun enthusiasts as the venerable Ithaca Gun Co. sold off equipment in its going-out-of-business liquidation auction.

Ithaca Model 37

Deliveries of the Model 37 Repeater began in April 1937. Since that time the Model 37 has been made in 12, 16, and 20 gauge, and in just about every configuration imaginable, from Standard, Skeet, or Trap grade guns with 26″ or 28″ barrels, ventilated ribs, and highly polished receivers to the rifle-sighted Deerslayer versions, and the specialized military and police Models. New name revives 60-year-old firearm for Ithaca gunmaker

Ithaca Gun Co. LLC has reintroduced a 60-year-old shotgun to the consumer market after the public and gun wholesalers began lobbying the company, says Robin Sharpless, director of operations for Ithaca. The upscale shotgun maker has begun selling its 12-gauge M&P model 37 under the name “Homeland Security Model 37.”
