Back in the 1950s and even later, many high schools had shooting ranges. Students even brought their own rifles to school. What changed in society that we could trust such activities then, but not now?

Ours had one. Maybe .22s or pellet guns but, it was a range all the same. We were the Class of 1982 in St Joseph, MO!

in my High School we had a shooting range for JROTC and Rifle Shooting Club
1982 when I was in 7th grade, I took an outdoor rec. class. We shot .22 rifles, bow & arrows & shotguns. Loved it!
Few know of our civilian marksman program that actually still exists in a weaker form-prevented invasion of USA
I shoot rifle team in H.S. up till I graduated I. 2001.
@Gun_Shots Had one in the basement of our school in upstate NY in 1968. Our rifle Club practiced there regularly.

belonged to Carmel (CA) High School rifle club 1956-58. Firing range 2 mi. up Carmel Valley Road. #expert
and then when blacks got guns all of the sudden “gun control “
